The Audible Bleeding Team

Adam Johnson, MD MPH

Adam is a second year vascular surgery fellow at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. He was born and raised in Overland Park, KS and received his MD and MPH from Tulane in New Orleans, where he was classmates with Kevin. He is an audiophile and listens to podcasts regularly on his bicycle commute and while walking his Italian Greyhound, Pepperoni. He has academic interests in continuous quality improvement, optimizing the electronic health record, and mitigating the impact of frailty on vascular surgery outcomes.

Kevin Kniery, MD MPH

Kevin is a vascular surgeon in the US Army.  He completed his vascular surgery fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine. He is the co-creator of Behind The Knife, the leading surgery podcast. He is an avid podcast listener, and endurance sport enthusiast. He went to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, for his undergraduate degree and Tulane for his MD and MPH. His wife Sarah gave birth to their first child, Makenna, in July.

Matthew Smith, MD PhD

Matt is an assistant professor of surgery at University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He completed his fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine.  He did his general surgery training at Cornell and was excited to stay for fellowship. Matt did an MD/PhD at University of Utah where he focused on Platelet biology.  Matt loves to teach and is excited to be a part of this podcast though his real passions are playing in the mountains and spending time with family.  

Nicole Rich, MD MPH

Nicole is a second year vascular surgery fellow at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine. She completed her residency in general surgery at U.C. San Francisco. Nicole completed her MD at U.C. San Diego and her MPH at U.C. Berkeley. Nicole enjoys teaching and is passionate about improving vascular surgical care for underserved populations. She loves architecture, theater, fashion, food and a good bookstore and is excited to be a part of the team at New York-Presbyterian for her vascular training.

Adham Elmously, MD

Adham completed his general surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and is currently a first year vascular surgery fellow at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine next year. 

Jacob Schwartzman, MD MPH

Jacob completed his general surgery residency at Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School and is currently a first year vascular surgery fellow at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine starting in August 2020. Jacob attended Boston University for undergraduate and medical school and earned his MPH at Rutgers during residency. He has a special interest in surgical education, both at the medical student and resident level. In his free time, he enjoys running, golf, tennis, fishing, and being outdoors. He is extremely excited to start fellowship and to be the newest addition to the Audible Bleeding team.

Sharif Ellozy, MD

Sharif is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, as well as the Program Director for the Vascular Surgery Fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medicine. He is passionate about surgical education, and couldn’t be prouder of his trainees. He is an avid swimmer, and in his off time he enjoys music, food and travel. Although he already listens to too many podcasts, he is thrilled to be a part of Audible Bleeding.
